Partitas

Home / Children & Youth Choirs / Partitas

BASED IN EAST VANCOUVER, A CHOIR FOR GRADES 3-8

Started during our 2016-17 season, the Partitas are a choir created to accommodate families on the East side of Vancouver.  They will rehearse for one and half hours on Wednesdays at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. The Partitas will appear in the annual Christmas Concert (Orpheum Theatre), Spring Concert (local church) and Summer Concert (Chan Centre, UBC) as well as small community outreach performances. The Partitas will sing challenging music in unison as well as 2 part music. They will be introduced to singing in other languages. Music is chosen from the classical voice repertoire, from musical theatre and international folk repertoire. Rehearsals will also include building essential musical theory and vocabulary knowledge, while continuing to develop their ear-training and sight-singing abilities.

Please note: We plan to continue rehearsals in-person in the fall.  If absolutely necessary, alternative options will be hybrid rehearsals (reduced numbers in person on a rotating basis, remainder of class joins from home) or fully online.

CONDUCTOR: Catherine Campolin
PIANIST: Aslan Aslanov

REHEARSALS

Wednesdays – 5:30pm – 7:00pm
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (1573 E. 18th Ave)

AUDITIONS

For this level, singers should prepare a song of their choice. Classical, folk, or traditional musical theatre is preferred. The conductor will take each child through rhythmic, aural and vocal skills exercises. Auditions are done individually and last approximately seven minutes.

*For 2022-23 season: auditions may be switched to an online format at short notice due to public health orders.  All requirements are still the same. For more information and to register for an audition, click HERE.*

As a parent, I have found the VBCC rehearsals uplifting. As a professor with 23 years of experience, the rehearsals have become some of my greatest professional development, reminding me constantly that the best imaginable preparation and knowledge conveyed to our “students” lead to the greatest performance on their part. Ms. Gaetanne often reminds us that Mr. Pullan was fond of saying that the higher his expectations, the better the results and that the choristers had never fallen short of his expectations. I believe we should all embrace that wisdom, just as the children of the choir have embraced and reflected that philosophy in their concerts.

T. Acton, VBCC parent
