Chorale

A TREBLE CHOIR FOR GRADES 5-8

Chorales appear in the annual Christmas Concert (Orpheum Theatre), Spring Concert (Pacific Spirit United Church) and Summer Concert (Chan Centre, UBC), in addition to small community outreach performances.  Chorales quickly learn to sing 2 and 3 part music, hence covering much more of the great choral treble repertoire. They sing in 4 languages from a wide variety of musical styles, adding songs from the jazz and gospel traditions to their steady diet of superb classical, folk, and theatre repertoires. Chorales make conscious their now-innate musicianship skills and actively learn to read music and understand music theory. A fast-paced, fun ensemble with a bit of choreography thrown in now and then.

REHEARSALS

chorale rehearsals begin september 9, 2025

Tuesdays at Pacific Spirit United Church  (2195 W 45th Ave) in Kerrisdale

Your start & end times will depend on which Theory group you are assigned:

Chorale Theory 1, 4:30-5:00

Chorale Rehearsal, 5:15-6:15

Chorale Theory 2, 6:30-7:00

PLEASE NOTE: We try our best to accommodate requests for specific rehearsal venue and times, however we also need to balance our choirs in terms of enrollment numbers and vocal considerations. We appreciate your understanding!

AUDITIONS

For this level, singers should prepare to sing either ‘Happy Birthday’ or ‘O Canada’ without piano accompaniment. Singers are also welcome to prepare a song of their choice in addition to ‘Happy Birthday’ or ‘O Canada’. The conductor will take each child through rhythmic, aural and vocal skills exercises. Singers will then be expected to complete a written Music Theory Assessment. Auditions are done individually and last approximately seven minutes.

The VBCC provides exceptional musical education at a very affordable price. The choir has given our daughter the opportunity not only to develop into a musician, but to gain self confidence, and to work with other children as a team in a structured yet fun atmosphere.
