In some ways it seems fitting to celebrate a 90th birthday with a lot of monumental change! The 2020-21 season was meant to be a celebratory year of big concerts and even bigger repertoire. However, like most groups we have had to change our plans and adapt to our current public health environment.
So, what does this mean? Let’s start with what hasn’t changed. We are still planning a season full of enriching, vibrant choir rehearsals for all ages. We’ll even have a couple of performances, both virtual and maybe even in person (outdoors and with safety protocols of course). We will still gather together (virtually or in person when allowed) as a community of dedicated musicians, united by choral music. We are still welcoming new members to join our choirs and discover a premiere educational experience.
What will be different? Based on current health recommendations, all our choirs will be starting rehearsals virtually in September. While this means we cannot gather together and sing in person, it opens up a lot of exciting new possibilities. This will include some fabulous guest artists and teachers from around the province, virtual choir video projects, renewed time spent on personal vocal and musical development, and the space and time for in depth musical explorations of treasured repertoire.
Yes, we are auditioning new members! Have you always wanted to try choir, or have a child interested in music? Are you looking for safe after school activities? We warmly invite you to contact us about auditions for the fall. You can read all the details about what is required on our 2020-21 Audition post.
Curious about choir? Come and try a couple virtual rehearsals before auditioning. The great thing about virtual rehearsals is that it’s easy to join us from anywhere and try a couple rehearsals from the comfort of your own home. Join us for two free virtual rehearsals before committing to an audition. Contact us today to sign up for your free trial. Rehearsals will begin in the second and third week of September.
We are excited to be taking on new challenges this season and learning how choir can be transformed by the virtual medium. We hope that you will join us on this journey!
