This week we focus on our talented rehearsal pianist for the VBC, Stephen Smith. Stephen has worked with the VBC for many years, both as an assistant conductor and a rehearsal pianist. Originally from Nova Scotia, he went on to studies in his home province, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England and the University of British Columbia.
Stephen is a fixture in the local music scene, playing for numerous choirs and also being active as a teacher, lecturer, adjudicator, conductor and composer. He regularly works with Elektra Women’s Choir, the Vancouver Men’s Chorus and the VBC, to name a few.
This week’s offering is unique – Stephen has chosen a few favourite pieces and given us some spoken commentary on each one. You can listen to his commentary and then find each piece below.
