Peter Monaghan originally began his studies at the University of Lethbridge as a trumpet major. He was converted to the vocal arts shortly after being asked to sing in the chorus for the University’s production of Die Fledermaus. Peter then transferred and completed both a Bachelors and Masters degree at the University of British Columbia. Last season, Peter had the honour of participating in and graduating from the Yulanda M. Faris young artist program with Vancouver Opera. Peter has performed across Canada and overseas in Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Cuba and China. Peter has sung with symphonies such as: the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Okanagan Symphony, and the Lethbridge Symphony to name a few. In October, Peter played The Mandarin in Vancouver Opera’s production of Turandot. Some of his most recent credits consist of: Antonio/Figaro cover, Le nozze di Figaro with Vancouver Opera; The father, Hansel and Gretel with Vancouver Opera; Beast, Beauty and the Beast with Theatre Under the Stars; Peter, Company with United Players Vancouver; Don Pedro, Béatrice et Bénédict with Fraser Lyric Opera; Colline, La Bohème with Opera Kelowna; Polyphemus, and Acis and Galatea with Re:Naissance Opera; and Opera Chorus in the world premier of Kayoi Komachi with TomoeArts. When not on stage Peter enjoys, board games, the occasional video game and spending quality time with his wife. He would not be here if it weren’t for her unending love and support.
