Marianne Murdoch Scholarship
The Marianne Murdoch Scholarship was created to enable current members of the VBCC and Sarabande to pursue artistic opportunities of their choice that might not be otherwise possible.
Applications are due by June 13, 2022. Submissions are accepted via this form, with recording files being sent to Gillian at by the application due date. Winners will be announced by the end of June 2022 and notified via email. Funds will be distributed by early July 2022.
Eligibility
- Be a current member of the VBCC and plan on returning for the 2022/2023 season. NOTE: students entering post-secondary studies in the Fall of 2022 do not have to meet this requirement. However, proof of registration/acceptance must be provided with application.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Funds are intended to be used towards musical or artistic activities outside of the VBCC. Examples of potential activities funds could be used towards are: private music lessons, purchase of musical instruments, theatre or dance classes, festival or competition entry fees, summer music programs; any artistic or musical activity will be considered, given a clear plan of action provided by the applicant.
- Each applicant may apply for a maximum of $1000. The scholarship committee may choose to only award a portion of the funds requested.
Requirements:
- Completed application form.
- Maximum 200 words describing what funds would be used towards. Please include the amount of money required. Remember to be specific. Rather than say, “I will use this money to take private voice lessons,” your application will be strengthened by adding specific details such as descriptions of desired programs, copies of correspondence with private teachers, proposed dates of activity etc.
- Maximum 200 words describing financial situation and why proposed activities would not be possible without scholarship funding.
- One solo recording (vocal, instrumental, dance, visual arts, etc), maximum 5 minutes in length. This can be video or audio (please use standard file formats such as mp4, mov or mp3) and submitted to Gillian Hunter-Gibbs at by the application due date. Files must be clearly labelled with applicant’s name. PLEASE NOTE: our e-mail server can only accept files up to 7MB in size. If you are submitting a larger file, please use Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another similar file transfer service. We are not responsible for files that are not properly formatted or received.
- Written description of contents of recording.

Follow Up
Successful applicants are required to submit a thank you note addressed to the Marianne Murdoch Scholarship. They are also required to submit a short report (max. 300 words) by December 2022 describing what funds were used for and how this activity benefited the applicant.
