We begin our season with two works rooted in the deep, personal spirituality of their composers. Brahms’ German Requiem, a favourite among audiences and singers alike is presented in a new orchestration for chamber ensemble. Paired with Pärt’s Berliner Messe, a work of stunning simplicity that has often been imitated in popular culture, but never matched. Both composers’ meditations on faith are anchored in their personal journeys, and search for a spirituality that transcends any particular faith/creed or dogma.
