Dear friends and supporters of the VBC family,
We hope that you are keeping well in these unprecedented and uncertain times. When we stopped our rehearsals for our regularly scheduled spring break holiday, we never could have imagined where we would be today.
In light of the safety of our singers, staff, and audiences we have made the decision to cancel all in person rehearsals for the remainder of our season, as well as our SummerSing concert on May 10th at the Chan Centre.
However, things are still busy at the VBC. Like many groups, we are entering uncharted territory as we work to move all rehearsals to a virtual platform. We are excited (and a little scared!) for our first full week of virtual sessions. We are proud that we are able to continue to provide musical offerings for our 400+ enrolled singers, and that we are able to continue to offer meaningful and engaged work for our artistic staff. We are also busy at work planning our 2020-21 season, which will be our 90th anniversary!
This does not mean that we do not share the many worries over what the future holds for arts organizations and the many freelance artists the VBC works with. As you’ve likely heard from many other performing arts organizations, current events represent a huge loss in income and security for the artists of our country. But even in the face of uncertainty, artists continue to give their talents selflessly to bring joy and calm to all of us at home.
If it is within your means at this time, we invite you to consider donating to the VBC. Your gifts provide security to our organization, and allow us to continue to support our artistic staff. Click here to give today.
From our family to yours, stay safe, healthy, and keep creating. We’ll be back together, sharing music, soon.
